    Welcome to the forums

    1) See 2
    2) If OpenWebMail can connect to POP3/IMAP then they can connect to the mailboxes hosted by ZCS
    3) http://wiki.zimbra.com/index.php?title=User_Migration
    4) ZCS users are not stored in /etc/passwd but in LDAP
    5) ZCS does have IM capabilities using Jive

Before attempting all this you should familiarize yourself with the Wiki :: zmprov command as most of the work will need to be performed from the command line. First of all you will need to create the mailboxes on your Zimbra server using
    Code:
    su - zimbra
zmprov ca {name@domain.com} "" displayName "Test Account"
That would create a user with the email address name@domain.com and a blank password. You could then use
    Code:
    zmprov ma user@domain.com userPassword '{crypt}$1$dblahblahstuff....'
To use the encrypted password from /etc/shadow and update their account with the same one.

You cannot do it that way ... You would need to use IMAPSYNC to transfer the emails. Its all in the Wiki document I posted in the above threads (see 3).
