Default Some calendar appointments lost during migration

    Hello,

we are currently migrating from Exchange 2010 to Zimbra Network Edition 8.0.6 on Centos 6.5 64-bit.

We use command line migration tool to migrate all users' mailbox content (except spam). This includes also calendar appointments.

In testing there was no problem but in the real migration, we have encounter a several types of errors which lead to several appointments not being migrated.

The first one very common error is (appointment subject is "Get Ready for HP Converged Systems"):
    Code:
Error on appointment Get Ready for HP Converged Systems -- system failure: writing invite to calendar item table: UID=040000008200E00074C5B7101A82E00800000000000000000000000000000000000000007E0000007643616C2D55696401000000303430303030303038323030453030303734433542373130314138324530303830303030303030304530444239463936373436444335303130303030303030303030303030303030313030203030303030353645363237463639413835433934424131303942353938374546454535393600
Another one is (appointment subject is "Priprava PPT na zalohovani" and "Cesta obsahuje neplatn├ę znaky" means in czech something like "The path contains invalid characters"):
    Code:
Priprava PPT na zalohovani exception caught in ProcessItems->api.AddAppointment Cesta obsahuje neplatn├ę znaky.
And the last one is (God knows if this is related to any lost item at all, logs are quite a mystery):
    Code:
CSmigrationwrapper MAPI edgecase MAPI Could not be returning all the items for the folder - Migration is not complete. Please re-run migration for the user
The two mentioned appointments as well the XML file used for command line migration tool can be downloaded here.

Also both the appointments can be easily imported vie zimbra web client so why the migration tool failed?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Petr

    Hi Petr,

do you have a support contract? If so, you might want to open cases on these issues on https://support.zimbra.com.

I'm currently having the same issues and cases open for them. They are:

    1. This is bug 79971 which evolved from an older case of mine: The Zimbra MySQL database has a column to store the UIDs which is a VARCHAR(255). Your UID is 300something chars long. The RFCs only require 255 chars minimum length and these UID lengths aren't really sane but we're talking about Exchange here.

    2. This is an issue in the migration wizard which is too strict. Not sure yet which "path" it is talking about since I've seen this for subjects both with and without non-ascii chars.

    3. This one isn't that bad, it just means something has changed the folder contents while you were migrating (incoming mail, user deleted a mail, ...). You might miss the changes which caused this. Best is to keep your source mailboxes read-only while migrating (which in Exchange 2010 is actually harder than it sounds).

    Regards,
    Malte

    Hello Malte,

thank you for your answer. We currently do not have a support.

    1. Well, such is life in "standardized" world :-) I think it is enough that we are able to pull out from the logs what appointments have not been migrated due to this error.
    2. This one still bothers me. If anyone have any light into this, please share.
    3. That's good news. Thank you for this. We are doing the migration in two stages. First with normal read-write access. And second with read-only Exchange which we reach by firewalling all traffic to Exchange server except that from migration servers which is a little bit clumsy, but works :-)

    Take care
    Petr

    Hi Petr,

good to hear that it was useful to you.

You extracted the two appointments as ICS files before. Could you create a PST file with only the two appointments in question? I'll add them to my suppot case then, that might help fixing the issues.

    Regards,
    Malte

Malte, ther is a link to skydrive in my first post where you can download all the appointments.

By the way - if I try to import the ICS file using the zimbra web client, it is successfull. That is quite strange if the limitation is in the database attribute definition. Perhaps the import process somehow truncates the UID. Nevertheless in an emergency, it can be used as workarround.¨

If you get a solution for the second issue, please let me know. Thank you.

    Petr
