That's perfectly normal, a mail server will try a number of times to deliver an email and after that period (five sayd is the default) ou will get an NDR telling you it can't be delivered. Don't you have a firewall in front of these servers? If you do then why not just forward the ports to their respective servers.

You can rename them or just recreate them in the new domain, details are in the wiki on how to do that.
