That again would indicate a DNS problem to me, what are you using for a DNS server? You could write a script to to the dig command using your LAN DNS server and see when or if it fails. You could also add script to check using an external DNS server to check the TXT records. On the ones that fail, ...

Are outbound DNS requests getting out and is your local DNS server actually running?
