yup that appears to have worked. i forget that pretty much everything from the web interface can be done from cli if you know where it is. Thanks!
can anyone else verify this behavior for bug report?

I have a multi server install and am attempting to allow plain text login for imap on my mailbox server so i can use imapsync. it does not have zimbra-mta installed. I go to the server and click on the IMAP tab. I then select "Enable clear text login" and hit save and I get a popupInvalid ...

you should also make sure ldap is enabled on the novell server you're trying to authenticate to as well.

we're not that big of a shop, so nothing fancy we'll probably just do a perl script or something. there is a SOAP framework for this you might want to look into htat

in opensuse there is a sysconfig option SMTPD_LISTEN_REMOTE that is set to no by default. this makes it so the smtp server only listens to hosts on it's network or maybe localhost i can't remember. that bit me in the rear a few times. maybe there is something like this in ubuntu as well?

would it be feasible to have 2 ips on the machine, run postfix on one and exim on the other. that would solve your problem i imagine with hte mx record only pointing toward the exim ip
