    Default Zimbra address book

    Hi everyone,

I have little question... is there more easy way to create something like distribution list per-user basis (eg. Every user can create group of contacts), if there is not - will it be (and when)?

    thanks

Thanks for your answer...I knew I can do that, but don't you think that is to complicated...

Not sure how a UI would look for per-user distro lists but I think you'd still need to enter the addresses. In the end the result will be the same and you'll have a list of emails separated by commas. So at this time we don't have any high-priority plans to change this.
Looking for new beta users -> Co-Founder of Acompli. Previously worked at Zimbra (and Yahoo! & VMware) since 2005.

Well, maybe making groups which are made from address-book enteries (with current way users need to enter same address more than once) can do the trick ... and those enteries ("groups") can have diferent icon, search box can be extended to with one more attribute - groups (as i understood contacts are kept in DB)

another way is adding TAGs to contacts

That's already there - switch to contact view, and either drag the tag to the contact, or the contact(s) to the tag. Or, rt-click a contact and select the "Tag Contact" menu item.

At the moment this is something that will cause some of our users to keep using Outlook in preference over the Zimbra client.

To have to retype emails that are already in your contacts to create a distribution list seems very 1990s. Even if autocomplete worked in the address fields it would be a great improvement.

Rather than a static list of addresses, wouldn't it be better to have a relational link so that when someone changes email address, you don't have to remember which distribution lists you have them in?
