    Default Read Receipts

Just wanted to add another voice to the request(s) for these.

Read Receipts are extremely useful for those of us who do a lot of emailing and need to know if our messages are being read, and how quickly, etc.

    Thanks!

Please add your voice to Bug 7257 - Support read receipts and delivery reports in webmail so the ZM project manager can see how many people would like it

Read receipts should be considered basic functionality. We have a lot of lawyers on our email system who ask at least once a month when read receipts will be implemented. We have already had to switch one client to Exchange because of this

AGREED! It really surprised me when I found out that it wasn't. And then I was even more surprised when it seemed to be such low priority. I guess apparently it isn't due to be fixed (or added) until the next major release... months on down the line.

Please also remember a lot of people block read receipts as IMHO they are not part of the RFC. They are useful, but by the same token they are also not reliable. I would be concerned if a lawyer was relying on email and read receipts, especially as emails are not guaranteed for delivery anyway.

Also if you are using a read receipt as evidence that a user read an email and so knew the details of the content, you should be aware that all a read receipt does is signify that the message was displayed on screen. It may (if the user's mail client presents a messages automatically as Zimbra does when the message pane is visible by default) have only been on-screen for a fraction of a second as the user moved down the message list to read something else, or displayed automatically (i.e. if it is the first in the list when the user logs in) but never looked at (say, the user logged in then went off to do something else and never returned to read mail before shutting the PC down).

Also, a lot of mail clients have receipts turned off by default (or simply don't implement them) these days so you would only be controlling the behaviour for your Zimbra users, not any external users they may be communicating with.

I just found out that the web interface does not support it. Most of my users do not use it, but I have a handful that will be disappoited it's not there.

this has made it impossible to use Zimbra for my law clients. Zimbra has alot of issues still, especially with Calendar/Contact sharing in the ZCO App. If you need an environment where calendar/contact sharing and the simple basics of email (read receipts) are supported I would switch to MS Exchange like we have for about half of our clients. The other half will be migrated to the ZCS OSS version here shortly.
Also, I still dont think there is a way to not block encrypted archive emails .... something that has made one of our accounting firms pretty unhappy.

Agreed, that's the same way I felt! I've always used read receipts internally extensively. Lets me know how 'on top of their email' my coworkers are, and if I'm falling somewhere on their backburner, priority-wise. If someone doesn't read my email for days or weeks, I know that I will need to call them if I have a question, and that they're not necessarily ignoring me.

I haven't tried but what if you uncheck the "Block Encrypted Archives" option under AS/AV?
