Yes, that is the correlation I'm making... The larger the email box = the more "sluggish" the web client becomes.

...But perhaps this is "normal" for Zimbra? Seams like it may be based on the posts that other people are experiencing this "sluggishness" too, and zimbra folk's reply is either, it's a vague comment or it must be something else on the network. - Not to be bad talking, but just what I'm reading. So maybe I too should just chalk it up as "normal".

So, have you actually:
a) logged on as different users with varying mailbox sizes
b) using different browsers
c) on different LAN computers
and recorded and analysed the results to look for anomalies?
The information you're giving us to go on at the moment is a bit vague

b) using different browsers -YES, Firefox and IE7
c) on different LAN computers -YES, tired on 30PCs so far, 4 Laptops, both wired and wireless, AND when plugged into the same switch as the server.
THE RESULT = Larger the email box size, the slower the web client.
Ok, so it appears that this is a problem system-wide and is only magnified when a user has a larger mailbox. Your system looks like it *should* be able to support the number of users you have. Are you seeing high loads/IO usage?
No, this isn't "normal" for Zimbra. I've seen this happening on our systems with normal loads during two situations: 1) There are a large amount of items in the left pane (i.e., folders in the Mail tab) 2) You have an external account added to your mailbox and it's checking an external account.

Yeah, you'll definitely want to try to reduce the number of folders on the root level of the mailbox. I didn't work with the user directly, but I want to say that one user in particular had something like 75-100 folders right on the top level of their mailbox. While they had it like that, the web client took a really, really long time to load. Once the folders were broken up into a bit of a hierarchy, the web client was snappy once again. Does that give you a little road to run on with some tests?
Just to add to that, we have several users with 8GB+ mailboxes. Typically a user like that is gonna be the first to complain about speed and we haven't heard a word..
Inbox root level, or folder root level....what exactly is this?
Now if the folders are a subfolder of the Inbox folder, this is bad.
But if the folder is at the same level as the inbox, sent, trash, ect...this is ok/better
