    Default Migrating user accounts?

    Hi.

Sure there are threads here someplace that I haven't seen, but my searches so far have come up empty.

    (i) Where does zimbra store user emails? Are they stored in maildir type directories, and if so, where?

(ii) I currently have a maildir setup using postfix + mysql + courier maildrop/imap/pop. I would like to copy over my user data to start testing out zimbra but I don't see currently how to do this in a simple way.

I guess if someone answered (i), I could easily do transfers over myself. If not, hoping there is some other way to quickly copy things over.

    Thanks!

    Sunil

    Hi

    Welcome to the forums.

If you search the forums for 'imapsync' you'll find lots of information on importing mail.

/opt/zimbra/store on the mailstore server - they're not maildir, specifically. We store metadata and mailbox lists in sql, and the messages in a file-per-message format. Note that messages sent to multiple recipients on the store are written once and hardlinked to the subsequent recipients.

As the previous post suggested, use imapsync (or, lmtpinject, if you prefer). You don't want to do a straight copy, since the sql db won't be updated, and the messages won't be indexed for search.

    Default Imapsync

Great! I will check this out tonight! Very excited to give this a whirl and see how my family/friends like it.

    Default using imapsync

This works ok, but the real issue is I appear to need the passwords for each user. I'd rather have a different way to do this. Up to now I have used rsync to migrate to a new server, but of course that doesn't really seem to work here.

    Any other ideas?

If you dont' have the passwords, you could make the users migrate themselves.

These are virtual users and they aren't too saavy. I guess I could always set up some sort of script they indirectly call.

or you could shut down the server for the time of the migration, backup the sql db, inject a default password in the sql db for every users use imap sync and restore the sql backup that solution will work f they dont know the password
