Default ZWC Ajax very slow on Firefox 3.0.4 on OpenSolaris 2008.11

My laptop - Lenovo Z61p w/ 3GB RAM. Under Debian Lenny Iceweasel 3.0, ZWC was perfectly acceptable speed no matter where I was connecting from (LAN or Internet connection).

On the very same laptop, under OpenSolaris 2008.11 w/ Firefox 3.0.4, ZWC (ZCS 5.0.10) is unusably slow in Ajax mode.

On a VirtualBox WinXP install under OpenSolaris, ZWC speed is acceptable in either IE7 or Firefox 3.0.5.

On a VirtualBox PuppyLinux install under OpenSolaris, ZWC speed is acceptable in SeaMonkey.

Under OpenSolaris Firefox, mail.google.com is fine.

It seems to me that it isn't the hardware, nor is it Firefox - it's the combination of the three parts: OpenSolaris, Firefox and ZWC.

Any suggestions on things to try adjusting?

    zwc doesn't use java?

try one of the javascript debuggers and see if you can trace what is taking so long to execute. perhaps the opensolaris firefox build doesn't have some crucial js optimiser running. solaris firefox builds in that past have always sucked ass, will probably take some time to get a good running build.

I didn't think java was involved with ZWC, but none the less, I have the following info, first 'java -version' on the client:

    Code:
    java -version
    java version "1.6.0_10"
Java(TM) Platform, Standard Edition for Business (build 1.6.0_10-b33)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 11.0-b15, mixed mode)
    Then on the server:

    Code:
    /opt/zimbra/java/bin/java -version
    java version "1.5.0_15"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_15-b04)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_15-b04, mixed mode, sharing)
I'll check Javascript debugging and get back here with results.

Any suggestions on an OpenSolaris browser known to have decent behavior with Zimbra?

I also checked OpenSolaris Firefox against mail.yahoo.com - which I _thought_ was Zimbra (with modifications) but it works fine (well, not great, but much better).
