Default Searching mail with partial words

Our installed version is Zimbra 6.

We have problems in searching mails by means of partial words using '*'
In both simple and advanced search.

Example:

searching "importan*"
return the email with subject:
"this is an importan subject"

searching "*portan*"
does not return the above email

searching "*portant"
does not return the above email

Is it a bug?
Can you support us?

Thanks for the useful link.
However, In the above page, it is stated

<<
Using * as a wildcard in Search

The asterisk (*) can be used as a wildcard in a search to find content that contains words that have similar spellings.

Use the asterisk * as a wildcard after a prefix. For example, the search string do* returns items such as do, dog, door, etc.

I still don't understand how to search for the middle of a word, not for a prefix.
It is a very important searching function and it is not reported in the link you suggested.
Is there something I've missed in?

Thanks
Adriano

Oops, sorry I gave you the wrong link. The feature you want isn't currently supported - it's actually a substring search not a wildcard and you might want to vote on this RFE (maybe also raise a support case to added to that RFE): Bug 14292 – Search for substring doesn't return any results

why is the functionality not yet implemented?
Is there a reason?
It's commonly available in any mail client (e.g. Thunderbird) and our users will require it for sure

regards
