    Default Performance issue

    Hi,

I've been running Zimbra for the past 9 months on my local network. I have it installed on a 1Ghz 512Mb ram Fedora Core 3 box which runs nothing else (a pretty low specc'd box but I'm the only user).

Quite often, when browsing my email via Thunderbird, I'll have the server timeout on me. Other times it'll take ~20 seconds to respond. 9 times out of 10 I'm looking for new messages in a folder that has thousands of messages in it.

If I browse the folder via the web client though it seems to respond in a timely fashion. I've yet to see it take more than 5 seconds, let alone timeout.

Any suggestions as to what I can do?

    Thanks,

    Andy Wu

    Hi

    Welcome to the forums.

Memory would be the improvement you could make, I'd double it and you should see an improvement. That's assuming there's no other connectivity problems that may be affecting Thunderbird.
    Regards

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I'd like to avoid throwing hardware at the problem if at all possible - I'm not keen on spending money on upgrading the memory on this old box especially when there's no guarantee that it'll rectify the issue.

    Default Ram

You need RAM, I've got a test system setup in Vmware and two users, with anything less than a gig allocated it thrashes the swap file big time.

You could try to disable any unnecessary services, such as AntiVirus, AntiSpam, Proxy, and Logger.

    Thanks for the replies.

I'm going to try it out on another box with more ram.
