    Default Are there any integrated RSS readers for Zimbra?

    Guys,

    I'm becoming so addicted to the Zimbra interface I have trouble using anything else. Is there an RSS reader capability? I've searched the wiki and found a Zimlet that will display 5 feeds, but I'd like to load around 50 or so.

    Apologies in advance if I missed the answer to this questions elsewhere.

    Thanks,
    Jbwiv

    Default Feed folders

    New > Folder > check Subscribe to RSS/ATOM feed

    Note that it will not auto-refresh at the moment. I believe that you have to right-click > Load Feed on each feed folder separately.

    Default Needs Auto Refresh

    I love the idea of having RSS in Zimbra, and I have tried it, but without auto-refresh, it is too much of a pain. The point of RSS is my news comes to me, I shouldn't have to do anything. It takes way too long to right click every feed and select "reload".

    Also I have not been able to find any way to use authenticated feeds.

    So I guess it is back to google reader for now

    Yeah, I'm with you on that, although it's not a huge pain for me. What *would* help, though, is a way to select (shift-click or ctrl-click) multiple feeds and then choose Load Feed.

    Ick...I'm wary of all the google tools. The amount of collection they do on habits, etc makes me nervous, but again I'm paranoid by nature.

    What really would make feeds work better for me was a per-folder/per-feed view setting. For example, I like to read my mail "By Conversation", but I like to read feeds "By Message", as by conversation doesn't really make sense in the case of feeds.

    If you have installed a personal copy of Zimbra, another thing you can do is use the zmmailbox command to reload your feeds:

    Code:
    /opt/zimbra/bin/zmmailbox -z -m user1 syncfolder /feeds/digg
    You could create a file with sync commands in it:

    Code:
    syncfolder f1
    syncfolder f2
    syncfolder f3
    And then run zmmailbox out of cron with the -f option and point at the file.

    We definitely need to put some more work into RSS though, what we have today is very minimal.

    I'd suggest filing a bug on being able to specify a default view for a folder, as well as an option to sync all RSS feed folders.

    I also though we had fixed all bugs related to authenticated feeds, but I could be wrong.

    I have written this script for our internal use - we have a group of users using zimbra, that's why I use a rss_group. Users must create their RSS feeds within their /Feeds folder.

    Code:
    #!/bin/bash
    rss_group="zimbroti@abakus.si"
    feeds_folder="/Feeds"

    for u in $(~/bin/zmprov gdl $rss_group | grep zimbraMailForwardingAddress | awk '{ print $2 }'); do
            echo "Now getting RSS Feeds of user $u"
            for f in $(~/bin/zmmailbox -z -m $u gf $feeds_folder | grep path | head -n-1 | awk -F\" '{ print $4 }'); do
                            echo "Refreshing RSS feed: $f"
                            $(~/bin/zmmailbox -z -m $u syncfolder $f)
                            done
    done
    Perhaps someone else finds this usefull.
