apache redirect to zimbra mail server

Postby th350urc3 » Thu Jan 17, 2008 9:48 pm

I would like to setup my apache server (separate server) to forward requests to securemail.mydomain.com to my zimbra mail server (also a separate box)
I don't see documentation on how to do this. I saw the docs on apache and zimbra on the same server but that is not what I need. Does anyone know how to do this or can direct me to a good read.
I have read about ip based virtual hosts but it seems that those different ips need to be configured on the local apache server.
WEBSERVER --> FORWARDS TO --> ZIMBRA MAIL SERVER, both are different servers and not on the same box.
This maybe out of the scope of these forums. But maybe someone has already tried to do this.
By the way ZIMBRA ROCKS!!! I installed it with few issues and am using it on CENTOS 5

apache redirect to zimbra mail server

Postby MeneM » Fri Jan 18, 2008 4:23 am

Hi there,
I only use normal http for now, but this is how I did it:

ServerName mail.domain.nl
ProxyRequests Off

Order deny,allow

Allow from all

ProxyPass / http://mail.domain.nl">http://mail.domain.nl/

ProxyPassReverse / http://mail.domain.nl">http://mail.domain.nl/

For me personally, the hosted DNS point mail.domain.nl to the IP address the apache server runs behind.
Internally, the DNS server point mail.domain.nl to the internal ip address (10.0.0.2) of the zimbra server.
I've kept the names the same for the outside world as the inside world. This to make sure zimbra does not point to links that do not exist outside the lan.
Thanks,

Mark

so on my firewall(which is also my DNS server) make that tell my internal lan clients which include, apache 1 and zimbra that securemail.mydomain.com is at 192.168.1.217, which is what it is internally, correct?
Ok
I will edit your virtualhost configuration to match mine this evening. Thank you for your help.

I tried your code

ServerName mail.domain.nl
ProxyRequests Off

Order deny,allow

Allow from all

ProxyPass / http://mail.domain.nl">http://mail.domain.nl/

ProxyPassReverse / http://mail.domain.nl">http://mail.domain.nl/

and it partially works; however it forwards mydomain.com and mymailserver.mydomain.com both to the zimbra sever. I only want mymailserver.mydomain.com to work. mydomain.com must have its own webpage different from mailserver.mydomain.com
