bebekmacho was kind enough to provide me with login/pass to his machine which solved the problem in a minute..
you *can't* use a symbolic link for /opt/zimbra to other directory.

if you want /opt/zimbra to reside on another slice/fs, please, use nullfs to achieve desired behaviour.
/etc/fstab:

/usr/home/zimbra.solko /opt/zimbra nullfs rw 0 0
command line:

mount_nullfs /usr/home/zimbra.solko /opt/zimbra
alternatively, switch to ZFS as You all should! :-)

Solko,
Great thanks for your help on my server last night. I learn something new and very useful. I'm looking forward on the GNR 7.x then.

Zimbra on FreeBSD - Zimbra :: Wiki
that wasn't fun at all, zimbra-devs.
EDIT1: upgraded from 6.0.4 to 6.0.13 on my production zimbra server.

EDIT2: added GNR-6013 build guide.

EDIT3: added GNR-6013 install guide.

Zimbra on FreeBSD - Zimbra :: Wiki
now that's more than 2 years of Zimbra on FreeBSD! keeping the patch in the main tree would be way less work :(.

ZCS 6.x ported to FreeBSD

I'm currently downloading the source package to try the i386 version. Our production mail server is amd64, but the only machines I have to test with right now are 32 bit.
If Zimbra works as advertised and I can get away from The Horde, then I can get all those (whiny) iPhone and Blackberry users to stop using Google Calendar instead of the house system.

Have you created an actual FreeBSD port for this?
Thanks!

this is as close as you can get. building a real port would require extensive patching to allow for building/running outside of '/opt/zimbra' which is not really worth it in the long run (and may break more things than we imagine). i still hope that one day zimbra team will just take over and do their own bsd-based builds.

GNR-6015
please
, see the patch notes before doing any rush decisions :). backup your /opt/zimbra before upgrade. zfs snapshot is the fastest way. backup your zimbra-rundeps packages via:

pkg_create -Rnb zimbra-rundeps-6.0.X

FreeBSD-8 and FreeBSD-9 packages.
