Zimbra Desktop or Web Client

Postby waseemz » Mon Nov 02, 2009 3:00 am

I am planning to deploy ZCS 6 on CentOS 5.3 x64 in my university. What you recommend to use internally Zimbra Desktop or Zimbra Web Interface. For sure users externally will use the web client but internally from performance issues what would be the best??. I have about 500 internal simultaneous users who potentially may access the Zimbra concomitantly of the overall account list of 4000 Zimbra accounts.
Many thanks.

Zimbra Desktop or Web Client

I work in a school, and what we do is have a Prism install on the machines, but point it to the web client on the local ZCS installation. This is launched via a custom-made C# application which logs the user straight in via the pre-authentication feature. This gives users the benefit of not having to type in their credentials again, but also presenting email as another application, separating it from other internet/web-based activities.
Running ZCD on the workstations might use up too many resources (depending on specification). As long as your server is up to it, I see no reason why your users shouldn't access the web client.
