Installing on WHM/Cpanel? Using Exim?

Postby bobbarker » Tue Sep 20, 2005 9:32 am

I'm interested in installing Zimbra on my web server, but it is Cpanel/WHM based, so it uses Exim as the MTA. As much as I'd prefer to use postfix, there really isn't any way for me to get around this.
Is it possible to install/use Zimbra, possibly with only a few features that dont work?

Well the installer is not setup at this time to allow a different MTA. We have some hooks into postfix for auth etc, that would need to be replicated.
The only option seems that you just turn off your MTA prior to the install. If this is not possible then I don't think the install will work.

Take a look at the bottom portion of main.cf from the zimbra sources or install. If you can express these lookup tables as exim LDAP lookups, or if you can write a script to get the data from LDAP into a format that exim likes, that would be one way.
Another thing you could do is run exim on port 25 and zimbra postfix on 7075 and relay everything from the exim end to postfix. Right now we have an iptables rule to forward port 25->7075 (we may change this in the future, but for now you can give it a shot) - to disable that look into zmiptables script.
