Zimbra proxy with url redirect

Postby dourmos » Mon Jun 13, 2016 6:19 pm

Hello,
is it possible to have two mailbox servers (mbox1.domain.com, mbox2.domain.com) and one proxy configured in front of them (mail.domain.com)?
My concern is to have one proxy, so all users will log in through it (https://mail.domain.com), and in a successful login they will be directed to the appropriate mailbox server (https://mbox2.domain.com).
If so, how can it be configured?

Thanks.

Hi dourmos,

Zimbra Proxy works on the same way as you want. You need to install a multi-server architecture and the guide to it can be found here https://files.zimbra.com/website/docs/8 ... _8.6.0.pdf

Also, you can follow the wiki article here for deeper understanding on how it works.

https://wiki.zimbra.com/wiki/Enabling_Zimbra_Proxy

Let us know, how it goes. Also, if you face any errors while configuring the same.

Hi! Sorry for digging this topic but I have the same issue right now. I do not want to do full reverse proxy but same with the original poster's requirement, I would like users to be redirected to their appropriate mailboxes. Do you have any specific commands on how to do it.

Please advise.

What do you mean by
"I do not want to do full reverse proxy"
?

Hi! What i wanted is that traffic will not stay on the proxy but instead it will just be redirected to the mailbox. Just like what the original poster's requirement.

I currently have multi server setup. I have proxy(proxy.mydomain.com), two mailboxes at mailbox1.mydomain.com and mailbox2.mydomain.com. If user A is at mailbox1 then when he logins to https://proxy.mydomain.com he will then be redirected to https://mailbox1.mydomain.com. This setup was working on 8.6 but can't seem to make it work on 8.7.1.

You mean that https://proxy.mydomain.com is only simple reverse proxy and not a Zimbra Proxy with Nginx and so on ?

Hi DualBoot,

https://proxy.mydomain.com/ is running a zimbra proxy. With previous version, when a user logs in via the proxy, the user is then re-directed to which mailbox he is being hosted. I believe this has soemthing to do with zimbra_auth_always_send_refer, i even set it to true but still after login, user can see his mailbox but his traffic stays with the proxy and instead of being redirected https://mailbox1.mydomain.com or https:mailbox2.mydomain.com whichever mailbox holds the user's mailbox. Can we do something about it with latest version. I wanted it that way since as far as per my tests, access is much faster than with traffic being on the proxy server.
