Upgd from 8.7.0 to 8.7.1 GUI Status

Postby ferra » Thu Nov 03, 2016 10:15 pm

I upgrade from 8.7.0 (CentOS Linux release 7.2.1511 (Core)) to 8.7.1, with no error:
Release 8.7.1_GA_1670.RHEL7_64_20161025045328 RHEL7_64 FOSS edition

zmcontrol status show all services running (CLI)
but in the console (GUI) all the services are marked red.
I can send emails.

Any idea?

This should be easy to track down.

Code: Select all

grep STATUS /var/log/zimbra-stats.log

If the STATUS entries are missing, then do this

Code: Select all

/opt/zimbra/libexec/zmlogprocess
grep STATUS /var/log/zimbra-stats.log

If you see the STATUS then look at cron and the crontab entry to see why zmlogprocess doesn't get kicked off.

If you don't see STATUS when you run the command by hand, verify that your syslog daemon is running (centos6 it is rsyslogd) and you have this entry:

local1.* -/var/log/zimbra-stats.log

Because you are running centos7, you have a few options for logging so I am a little vague here and provide the centos6 answer.

I spent a bit of time looking into this on an update last week https://forums.zimbra.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=60723

Hopefully, this helps.

Running grep STATUS /var/log/zimbra-stats.log
I can see all the entries showing the services are running

Cron is running:
root 656 0.0 0.0 126328 492 ? Ss Nov01 0:00 /usr/sbin/crond -n

In /var/spool/cron/zimbra:
00,10,20,30,40,50 * * * * /opt/zimbra/libexec/zmlogprocess > /tmp/logprocess.out 2>&1

In /etc/rsyslog.conf:
local0.* -/var/log/zimbra.log
local1.* -/var/log/zimbra-stats.log
auth.* -/var/log/zimbra.log
mail.* -/var/log/zimbra.log

I also notice these errors:
postfix/postdrop[18143]: warning: mail_queue_enter: create file maildrop/775213.18143: Permission denied

the process is running:
ps axu | egrep post
postfix 15034 0.0 0.0 49636 1028 ? S 14:08 0:00 pickup -l -t unix -u
postfix 15035 0.0 0.0 49820 1068 ? S 14:08 0:00 qmgr -l -t unix -u
postfix 15679 0.0 0.0 49756 1100 ? S 14:08 0:00 tlsmgr -l -t unix -u
postfix 15811 0.0 0.0 49732 1024 ? S 14:08 0:00 showq -t unix -u
zimbra 18143 0.0 0.0 49608 260 ? S Nov03 0:00 /opt/zimbra/common/sbin/postdrop -r

I reinstall (upgrade) again Zimba, and now I have some services that are not running

You jumped a little far ahead of me. The

Code: Select all

zmcontrol status

and the gui are very similar. Here is why:

/opt/zimbra/libexec/zmstatuslog runs that same 'zmcontrol status' and parses the resulting output. That first line that comes back (Host: hostname) from zmcontrol status is used to send those 'STATUS' lines via syslog to your zimbra-stats.log file.

At some point in the future, a backend process will parse all this but we hadn't got there yet. Because you had zmcontrol status working, you had a functioning system.

Now, I don't know

Guess we should start with the output of zmcontrol status after your upgrade.
Next we should figure out what happened to your permission and/or sudoers file and begin the process of looking for information.

From my experience that install.sh is pretty good so it is going to be something simple. I have seen it lose some entries in sudo mostly because the uninstall tries to put things back. Now that they are using the sudoers.d, it should be much easier for them not to get this wrong.

Until I looked at how the gui status worked, I thought something was super wrong with my server and upgrade so I understand you thinking something was really broken but it really is just eye candy for the browser.

It will work out.

Can you verify some stuff.

Code: Select all

testmail:~:60> cd /etc/sudoers.d/
testmail:/etc/sudoers.d:61> ls
01_zimbra       02_zimbra-dnscache  02_zimbra-mta    02_zimbra-store
02_zimbra-core  02_zimbra-ldap      02_zimbra-proxy

I believe if you look at /opt/zimbra/log you will see some zmsetup files... do this:

Code: Select all

ls -lt /opt/zimbra/log/zmsetup*

and view the latest one. That should give you some ideas.

ok,
[ sudoers.d]# ls -l
total 24
-r--r----- 1 root root 28 Oct 25 09:56 01_zimbra
-r--r----- 1 root root 53 Oct 25 09:56 02_zimbra-core
-r--r----- 1 root root 49 Oct 25 10:57 02_zimbra-ldap
-r--r----- 1 root root 482 Oct 25 10:03 02_zimbra-mta
-r--r----- 1 root root 51 Oct 25 10:57 02_zimbra-proxy
-r--r----- 1 root root 55 Oct 25 10:25 02_zimbra-store

yeah, I found this:
mkdir: cannot create directory '/opt/zimbra/mailboxd/work': Permission denied
Starting mailboxd...failed.

but folder work exists
# ls -l /opt/zimbra/mailboxd/work
total 0
drwxr-x--- 2 zimbra zimbra 6 Nov 4 16:51 spnego
drwxr-x--- 3 zimbra zimbra 16 Nov 4 17:10 zimbra
drwxr-x--- 3 zimbra zimbra 16 Nov 4 17:10 zimbraAdmin
drwxr-x--- 2 zimbra zimbra 6 Nov 4 16:51 zimlet

# ls -l /opt/zimbra/mailboxd
lrwxrwxrwx 1 zimbra zimbra 46 Nov 1 20:56 /opt/zimbra/mailboxd -> /opt/zimbra/jetty-distribution-9.3.5.v20151012

any idea?

Sudo stuff looks good... file sizes look good.

I haven't seen this before so not a lot of experience with this type of failure. Generally the logs have quite a bit of information.

Code: Select all

ls -ld /opt/zimbra/mailboxd/work/
drwxrwxr-x 8 zimbra zimbra 4096 Nov  3 09:55 /opt/zimbra/mailboxd/work/

I don't have a FOSS to compare against but my NETWORK looks like this.A few extra things.

Code: Select all

mail:mailboxd/work:79> ls -l
total 32
-rw-r----- 1 zimbra zimbra 3150 Nov  3 12:45 ehcache-sizeof-agent6488551776829609502.jar
drwxr-x--- 4 zimbra zimbra 4096 Oct 27 18:06 resource-cache
drwxr-x--- 3 zimbra zimbra 4096 Nov  3 12:45 service
drwxr-x--- 2 zimbra zimbra 4096 Oct 27 17:52 spnego
-rw------- 1 root   root    933 Nov  3 12:44 start_366629053485028972.properties
drwxrwxr-x 3 zimbra zimbra 4096 Oct 27 17:53 zimbra
drwxr-x--- 3 zimbra zimbra 4096 Nov  3 12:45 zimbraAdmin
drwxr-x--- 2 zimbra zimbra 4096 Nov  3 12:45 zimlet

/opt/zimbra/mailboxd looks the same as mine.

Everything looks in the right place, but cannot find the mistake. This upgrade should be easier.
