Deleted LDAP logs please help

Postby underdog » Mon Jun 14, 2010 4:18 am

Hi There,

I managed to do something a bit stupid.

The filesytem was full and Zimbra wasn't accepting mail. Whilst formatting new drives and setting up extra storage I needed to get zimbra back up and running so I cleared as many log files as possible from the system including what I thought were a lot of old log files from the ldap logs directory. Little did I know that these were critical for LDAP/Slapd to run.
Now zimbra won't run and gives me an error about being unable to determine what services to run when I try to start it.
I know it was a foolish thing to do. I have tried a few solutions posted here about rebuilding corrupt LDAP databases but because there literally *isn't* a database to recover they are understandably not working.
If I try to run an update from zimbra 5 to 6 will it write a base db back into place?
Thanks for any of your help help or suggestions!!!

OK,

So I've come up with a (perhaps hairbrained) idea:
I have setup a clean server and backed up the previous install including all data folders even the empty LDAP one.

I plan to install a clean version of zimbra to get at least some form of LDAP service running then copy over all data, minus the LDAP data from the backup. Does this seem plausable?

I'll post how I get on.

Has anyone ever done this before?

What does the LDAP directory actually hold? Is it the master user files or are these part of IMAP or mysql data?
Fingers crossed.

OK so after a huge amount of effort...
There's basically no way to do this.

I have setup a new sever with a clean zimbra install and am now tediously going through the /opt/zimbra/store to inject the emails back into the newly setup users inboxes with the tool:

/opt/zimbra/bin/zmlmtpinject
