Best Linux Server to Use

Postby jpbuse » Thu Feb 07, 2008 9:44 am

I'm very comfortable with CentOS, however the only issue I see is that CentOS is not officially supported by Zimbra. I'm currently testing Zimbra on a Ubuntu build but would prefer to roll it out with CentOS. No hard feelings towards Ubuntu but this week is the first I've ever touched it. Any thoughts on Zimbra support for CentOS? Would you roll out a production environment of Zimbra on top of CentOS even though its not officially supported?

I certainly won't bash CentOS because it's a fine OS, but I moved from RHEL to Ubuntu Server and like it a lot. A nice feature is that you can't be root without using sudo (unless you break that design on purpose). It's made my administration much more "best-practice" friendly. :)
Also, from this other topic, CentOS has an unresolved issue, thus it's not supported.

I read the post but it appears as if the issue has been resolved??
On a separate note, I've got another issue regarding i/o issues that killed Zimbra last night. A restart fixed it. I am running another test install of Zimbra on top of CentOS 5.x and so far that install has not exhibited the i/o issue I saw last night. I'm not sure if its related to the OS or not.
Thanks for the feedback. Ubuntu does seem pretty slick. The sudo thing is a non issue to me as w/ my CentOS installs I just disable root as part as my post install config.

I have found very, very few issues in these forums where ZCS is running on SuSE. That could either be from no one is running SuSE or SuSE is simply rock solid.
