MIgration to another machine failed, zimbra not working at all

Postby mtanzer » Tue May 03, 2011 12:37 am

Hi all, I am dealing with an urgent Problem:
I had do move zimbra 5.0.23 (Open Source) from Ubuntu 6 to Ubuntu 8. I followed the instructions from http://blog.zimbra.com/blog/archives/2007/10/moving-zcs-to-another-server.html]» Zimbra :: Blog. After moving the data to /opt an ./install.sh works without errors, zimbra starts:
zimbra@zimbra:~$ zmcontrol status

Unable to determine enabled services from ldap.

Enabled services read from cache. Service list may be inaccurate.

Host zimbra.zummartinsepp.at

/var/log/mail.log is full of errors:

Connecting with the browser shows the apache default site "It works!"

zmcontrol stop or /etc/init.d/zimbra stop does is without any effect:
As postet here that an old zimbra installation broke - unfortonately no one was able to help.
You'd be far better fixing that install.
I set up an new system. How can I convert the old mdir to the new installation? LDAP starts, IMAP ist not working.
Exactly the same as you would in your other thread. You really ought to give exact details of what steps you've taken to move to another server and whether it's 32bit to 64bit etc.
Did you try some of the solutions in the forums:
I'll merge this with your other thread as it's the same topic.

MIgration to another machine failed, zimbra not working at all

Postby mtanzer » Mon May 09, 2011 6:04 am

In fact my problem is older. I was stuck to 5.0.23 because an upgrade failed long time ago: http://www.zimbra.com/forums/administrators/41833-upgrade-5-0-23-5-0-24-fails-open-source.html
I
was not able to solve this problem. Now trying to move to another machine (./install.sh -s, copying the data and ./install of the same version) also failed. I have all the data on the old machine, I am not able to fix the 5.0.23 install.
Thiis is the only output I get:

Mon May 9 13:00:48 2011 Upgrading from 5.0.23_GA_3242 to 5.0.24_GA_3356

Mon May 9 13:00:49 2011 Stopping zimbra services

Mon May 9 13:00:52 2011 Stop failed - exiting

Mon May 9 13:00:52 2011 UPGRADE FAILED - exiting
This would appear to be the same problem, what happens if you try and restart Zimbra? See if there's also a stray .pid by doing the following (before you do the restart):

rm /opt/zimbra/zmstat/pid/zmstat-*.pid
Do you see any other errors in the install log file? Why are you not moving to a more recent version of Zimbra than the one you're trying to install?

MIgration to another machine failed, zimbra not working at all

Postby mtanzer » Mon May 09, 2011 8:21 am

Thank you for your help!
I would love to upgrade to a recent version, but all my trys to higher versions failed. For some reason the server startet, so I stuck to this version. But now it ist dead :-(
I recieve no errors:

The system will be modified. Continue? [N] y

in /tmp there are 2 files created:
root@zimbra:/usr/src/zcs-5.0.24_GA_3356.UBUNTU6.20100629143641# ls -l /tmp/

total 8

And this is the output:

I forgot: The running behaviour is strange.
Errors starting:
zimbra@zimbra:~$ zmcontrol start

Host zimbra.zummartinsepp.at

Starting ldap...Done.

Starting logger...Done.

Starting mailbox...FAILED

Starting zmmtaconfig...failed.

Starting mysqld...done.

mailboxd already running.

Starting antispam...Done.

Starting antivirus...Done.

Starting snmp...Done.

Starting spell...Done.

Starting mta...FAILED

Starting zmmtaconfig...failed.

zmmtaconfigctl failed to start

Starting saslauthd...done.

Starting stats...Done.

Zimbra pretends to run without errors:

zimbra@zimbra:~$ zmcontrol status

Host zimbra.zummartinsepp.at

antispam Running

antivirus Running

ldap Running

logger Running

mailbox Running

mta Running

snmp Running

spell Running

stats Running

The netstat output ist strange. No Ports 80, 443, 143, 7071, etc. Java processes are invisible:
root@zimbra:/usr/src/zcs-5.0.24_GA_3356.UBUNTU6.20100629143641# netstat -ltnp

It would be enough to get IMAP up to gather the old mai from the fresh installation...
