Upgrade 8.0.7 to 8.5.0, RHEL 6 - Successful?

Postby cpaul_carling » Mon Oct 06, 2014 8:09 pm

How many of you have successfully upgraded without issues to 8.5.0 on RHEL 6?

I see one of the requirement is patch level 4, but I can't find any information on how to determine if I meet those requirements:

uname -a shows the following:

Linux xxx.xxx.com 2.6.32-279.5.2.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue Aug 14 11:36:39 EDT 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Thanks.

I upgraded from 8.0.7 to 8.0.5 on RHEL6.5 64-bit without issue.

Not that I'd really recommend doing so. 8.5 is the buggiest release in the history of Zimbra.

Thanks. I understood that. I'm concerned about your comment about the bugs. Can you elaborate?

I have several support tickets open reporting various bugs in 8.5.0. I've been using Zimbra since 4.x, and I upgrade to each new release. I've never had to report more than one bug against a specific release in the past.

Here are some of the bugs currently present in 8.5.0, most of them have been known to Zimbra for many weeks:

* EAS (mobile ActiveSync clients) get their connection broken and have to delete re-create it after you upgrade the server. Affects primarily BlackBerry, but also some Android clients, in my experience.

* BlackBerry EAS clients get unlimited buildup of mail in their "Drafts" folder, nothing is ever removed.

* The Standard web client (not Advanced) strips line breaks when sending email, if you are set to "compose as text". Big issue for mobile users.

* Editing filters via the web interface is completely broken with the Advanced web client on IE8 (WinXP).

* Editing filters via the web interface is pretty broken with the Standard client on any platform.

Yeah, we've been running it for a long time as well. This is concerning. Maybe I'll just go to 8.0.8 for now and wait for another patch release.
