8.6.0 Patch 1 Release Notes needs upgrading: chmod missing

Postby krabina » Mon Mar 02, 2015 1:35 am

ZCS 8.6 patch installation works, but the command /opt/zimbra/libexec/zmsyslogsetup results in "Permission denied", even though I am root.

The solution was to first do a

chmod 755 /opt/zimbra/libexec/zmsyslogsetup

then it worked. Should be upgraded in release notes.

Hi krabina,

You have right, in the first documentation we told already this:

4.

After installing the patch, run the following commands as root:

chmod 644 /etc/logrotate.d/zimbra

/opt/zimbra/libexec/zmsyslogsetup

But is not in this second Patch Release Notes, we will change it, thank you.

This actually would not have solved the problem, and those instructions were removed because the patch does not include a new zimbra logrotate configuration this time, so it was not something we needed to execute this time around. :)

I'm unsure why you ran into this, [mention:52671a90fc8b47fb8c49ea4bc6067466:e9ed411860ed4f2ba0265705b8793d05]. We haven't patched that file, and I've checked a few systems that had 8.6.0 and then upgraded to 8.6.0 Patch 1, and I don't see zmsyslogsetup incorrectly permed anywhere. My best guess is that somehow someone modified the permissions on that file. Unfortunately, since you already changed the perms, I can't ask what they had been set to so the best thing I can ask is that you let us know if you run into this issue again. So far, you're the only person that's reported it, but I'll certainly stay on the lookout for others reporting it and look into it further if it appears more widespread.

I think it was 644 and I set it to 755.
