dedup attachment sent to local users

Postby fbzimblet » Thu Dec 07, 2017 2:53 am

Hi,

If a user sends email with attachment 10MB to 5 users, will space usage consume 10MB + 50MB? If there's dedup feature, does quota on recipients with deducted 10MB each or just a few bytes for metadata/texts?

thanks.

No, it only has one copy i.e. it consumes 10MB.

Testing just now, it does effect quota.

All recipients that received 3MB attachment got their quotas decreased by 3MB.

Is it possible only link attachment form sender only if send from local account e.g.: postmaster

Of course it does.

Not as far as I know and anything other than the current design, IMO, would be a nightmare to manage. It's allocated to their quota but only occupies 3MB on the HD, each person but one could delete that and it would still show in the quota for that person only and the attachment would not have consumed any extra space and each of the users that delete it would have their quota usage reduced. There may be a better design but that's the current mode of operation.
