zmcontrol not command not found

Postby patrickwilson82 » Thu Nov 15, 2018 7:59 pm

Hello,

I recently set up a new Zimbra server on Open Source, that's not active to the external world, but is being used to store archived accounts of users who are no longer here. I haven't used it in a couple of days, but when I went to log into the admin page it won't pull up at all. I can ssh to it and log in as the zimbra user, but as soon as I try to run zmcontrol start it tells me "command not found". Any ideas?

How do you go from root to zimbra user? Write the exact command here plz.

Once you switch to zimbra user, what's on your path? Can uou search for that command under /opt/zimbra/bin or /opt/zimbra/libexec (im not in my computer so idk where that command is exactly).

When I try to cd to either of those directories I get "No such file or directory."

The command I use to go to zimbra user sudo -i -u zimbra

Mmmm and yiu say that you were able to use this server in the past?

The fact that you can't find those folders is either because something went really wrong with your zimbra or because zimbra was installed in other path. Maybe there is a mount point and the disk where zimbra is actually installed is not mounting?

Could you share the output of
Cat /etc/fstab
mount
df -lh
Rpm -qa | grep -i zimbra
ls -lah /opt
ls -lah /opt/zimbra
cat /etc/passwd
locale

I'm in my phone so is kind of hard to read that output, but for what i can see.
At least libexec and bin are missing from your /opt/zimbra
Not related to your problem, but also not good, is the way you use to switch to user zimbra. Use 'su - zimbra' to load the right environment for zimbra to run without unexpected behaviors.
If rpm is not found that's because you are using some debian kind of distro? Make sure .debs are still showing as installed.

Any idea what could happen to those folders?

If no other suggestions are given, maybe you could try installing a zimbra in the same version but in another server, so you can copy both libexec and bin to your box?

It looks like I'm good for now. I went back one more day on my System Restore from backups and I'm good to go now. The last thing I did before I noticed an issue was run APT purge X*

APT purge gnome*

APT install X*, gnome*

in an attempt to fix my Ubuntu GUI. I don't even care about the GUI now, I'm just glad this is back up and running. Thanks for the help!
