Error when trying to send

Postby kdmiller45 » Fri Mar 20, 2020 3:53 am

I have Zimbra behind a Pfsense firewall, it works fine without pfsense but when activated I get the following error, can you tell me if maybe this is a port not allowing a connection looks like not connecting to MTA

/etc/hosts file looks like this

192.168.1.39 justourmail.com justourmail
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
# The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback localhost
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters

An unknown error (mail.TRY_AGAIN) has occurred.
method: [unknown]
msg: try again: Unable to connect to the MTA
code: mail.TRY_AGAIN
detail: soap:Receiver

The first thing to mention is that your hosts file is incorrect, it should be the FQDN of your mail server as mentioned in many posts/threads all over these forums. The second thing is that you need a Split DNS configuration if your ZCS server is on a LAN, also mentioned in posts/threads all over these forums. Third, you should read the Split DNS wiki article on the configuration you need. Try a forum search before you post, most questions have already been asked & answered. ;)

You might like to take a look at OPNsense for your firewall. :)

Just as Bill has said, if you're running Zimbra behind a firewall, you'll need to properly setup a split-dns.

I have a DMZ setup on my pfSense and isolate Zimbra within it, along with a split-dns and do not have issues with Zimbra.

Doug I might be able to figure out the DMZ part of pfsense, but do you have a document of how you setup your zimbra with split-dns some of what I have seen is not something outlined step by step it assumes you know what your doing, which is not the case here

Thanks

Cannot assigned requested address

Postby kdmiller45 » Sat Mar 21, 2020 2:18 am

I have installed dnsmasq due to my zimbra being behind Pfsense
and followed these instructions "https://wiki.zimbra.com/wiki/Split_DNS"
I now get this error:
Host justourmail.com
Starting ldap...Done.
Failed.
Failed to start slapd. Attempting debug start to determine error.
5e7574d6 daemon: bind(7) failed errno=99 (Cannot assign requested address)
5e7574d6 slap_open_listener: failed on ldap://justourmail.com:389

here is my resolv.conf:
root@smtpout:/etc# cat /etc/resolv.conf
search justourmail.com
nameserver 8.8.8.8
root@smtpout:/etc#

here is my hosts file
root@smtpout:/etc# cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
192.168.1.39 smtpout.justourmail.com smtpout
# The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback localhost
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
root@smtpout:/etc#

The Split DNS wiki article covers the steps required and is written in fairly simple terms, did you read it and if so what didn't you understand?

It would help if you'd posted this in reply to your original thread (and it was also in the wrong forums).

If you're adding a new DNS on your LAN you'd be best installing it on another server but if you decide to install it on your ZCS server then you'd need to disable the DNScache feature of your zimbra server. I'd suggest you shutdown ZCS and kill any remaining processes the restart ZCS or simply just restart your server.
