Cannot access Zimbra via static IP

Postby srusli313 » Fri Jul 22, 2011 2:52 am

Hi all,
I've managed to successfully installed ZCS ver. 7.1.1 GA in Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (32bit x86 version) and also the ZD 7.01 in Windows. I can access everything via the local area network - great! I'm very new to linux and Ubuntu, it's almost a miracle everything is working.
Anyway, I have a small problem - which is enabling Zimbra to be accessed from the Internet via static IP. Basically, what I want is when authorized user type in my static IP address, he/she will automatically be brought onto the Zimbra login page.
I have a static IP router which is managed by the router, I tried to set up a virtual server, which directs my static IP to zimbra's IP. However, this is unsuccessful because whenever I put port 80, the router rejects it due to port conflict with the web - it said.
How can I get around this and access Zimbra from the web? I'm sure this is the basic feature, and I look forward to getting some answers.
Thanks!

The problem appears to be related to the router in question. Unless I misunderstand the situation, it would appear that your router has appropriated for itself port 80 on each interface, probaly because it runs an embedded web server for the purpose of its own configuration and it cannot relinquish it by moving his web server to a different port or by limiting access to it only on its internal-facing interface.

That's usually some locked-in configuration of consumer routers.

A workaround might be enabling a ssl-only configuration on Zimbra, provided you router hasn't swallowd up port 443 as well.

From the shell you can give a

su - zimbra sh -c "/opt/zimbra/bin/zmtlsctl https"

as root user or just

zmtlsctl https
>

as zimbra user.
Regards.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I have thought of that as well. However, since everything is up and running, with many users depending on it, what is the command in the shell that will revert to http again, if it doesn't work? will "zmtlsctl http" revert it back to what it was? Because I have to re-configure all the users' ZD to make it work. I'm very very new in shell, and am a bit overwhelmed by all the commands that I don't know anything about.

Thanks!

Yes, it's zmtlsctl http, although you may choose zmtlsctl both to have it listening on both port 80 and 443.

I have used 'both' - and it works great! Thanks! Another problem solved.
