New installation on XEN, HVM or not?

Postby RJones » Fri Aug 31, 2012 7:14 am

Hi there, i'm planning on doing a migration shortly, and will be installing a new virtual machine on our XEN Server, with Ubuntu as it's OS.
My query is, Would Zimbra require this to be a HVM VM?
Thanks

I run Zimbra 7.2 Under HVM (the opensource Zimbra, Ubuntu 8.04 32 bit)) and PVM (network edition, Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit) with Citrix XenServer 5.6 and have had no issues. The HVM hosted version runs noticeably slower than the PVM one.

HVM? or KVM?

If KVM use ext3 as partition for the vdisks, use native instead of threaded and turn of cache and you will be fine

do not try this on ext4 because ext4 has a bug regarding that issue.

in addition using raw images has always a better performance.
i know you cnat do snapshots with it but honestly i dont wanna hear the word snapshopt regarding zimbra, you know without support of flushing the ram

and stopping transactions for a second you should not do any kind of snapshot anyway
