Availability of Zimbra Desktop sources

Postby Cartero » Fri Aug 15, 2014 9:39 am

Good day.
My first post, please don't hold that against me.
Installed ZD on a Linux Mint 16 Mate box (based on Ubuntu 13.10).
I'm mostly pleased with it. However, I'm in the habit of customizing

the applications I use to my taste by editing the code -- and would

like to do the same with ZD.
Have not been able to locate the source code for ZD.
Is it available?
If so, where?
Thank you.

Good news/bad news though...
First the good news.
"ZimbraOffline" is available as part of the rather large FOSS repository on Git. You can see instructions for syncing it here:
Now">https://wiki.zimbra.com/wiki/Building_Zimbra_using_Git#Obtaining_the_source_to_Zimbra_Collaboration_Suite
Now
the bad news.
The most recent version of ZD isn't built from ZimbraOffline, but is instead built off a much newer branch called ZD-HELIX, which is not part of the repository. I'm told this is mostly due to some licensing issues and the fact that getting a ZD build to work in a new environment is a non-trivial task. Our engineering team is currently looking at better methods of exposing the ZD code, likely in its own separate repository so you don't have to take the 14 GB hit of the rest of the repository just to get it, but there currently isn't a timeline in place to make that change as everyone's pretty focused on getting the 8.5 version of Collaboration out the door right now. That said, I've alerted the proper people to your interest and I think we can safely assume you're not alone in that interest, so hopefully that work will move forward soon.
Sorry I couldn't give a better answer, but hopefully this is a little helpful.

Availability of Zimbra Desktop sources

Good day and thank you, Josh.
I can wait for the release.
What I would need to change right away when the sources are available is that ZD uses

"localhost" for the HELO/EHLO rather than the FQDN, and that it includes the host name

on the Message-ID header rather than the domain name.
These are simple settings to adjust with Thunderbird, but I could not find a(ny) way to

adjust them with ZD. Hence, my need to hack the code accordingly.
There are a few other changes that I would make to personalize ZD that probably wouldn't

make sense to anyone else.
Thank you again for your prompt and honest reply.
