IMAP was enabled, email and password correct. Firewall completely disabled.
But could still not login.
But I had to I had to set "Allow less secure apps:ON"....see attachment.

If Zimbra Desktop had a sync failure, it may have told you to post your error in this section.

I don't see the attachment. I am having the same problem. Is it a setting within Gmail you are referring to?
