Thread: Please Help: Startup Problems: ZCS on SUSE Enterprise Linux

Default HOW TO ? New User Setup : ZCS on Ubuntu for BES 4.1

I want to setup and work BES to restrict the usage policies of the Blackberries in our organization. And from what I have read it seems Zimbra's Collaboration Suite + SUSE Enterprise Server can be used in place of an Exchange Server.

So I have setup a machine with Suse Enterprise Server and have installed the Zimbra Collaboration Suite.

My problem is, after installing ZCS and when I do a "zmcontrol status", it gives me an error,

unable to determine enabled services from ldap
Unable to determine enabled services. Cache is out of date or doesn't exist

When I do "zmcontrol stop" it is stopping all the services, but unable to start them back again as I get that message again.

And because of this I am assuming, am unable to access the configuration page for ZCS, and setup the user accounts for BES.

I am not able to figure out what is the cause of this message is or how I can fix it, from various posts and forums since there does not seem to many posts about this problem.

If any one has been able to successfully figured out this issue and got Zimbra running please give me some pointers or instructions.

    Welcome to the forums

That sounds like a DNS issue so please post the following information
    cat /etc/hosts
    cat /etc/resolv.conf
    dig yourdomain mx
    dig yourserverfqdn
host `hostname` <- note backticks and not double quotes

Thank you, here are the output for the command requests,

    1. cat /etc/hosts

    # hosts This file describes a number of hostname-to-address
    # mappings for the TCP/IP subsystem. It is mostly
    # used at boot time, when no name servers are running.
    # On small systems, this file can be used instead of a
    # "named" name server.
    # Syntax:
    # IP-Address Full-Qualified-Hostname Short-Hostname
    # localhost.localdomain localhost

    # special IPv6 addresses

    2. cat /etc/resolv.conf

    # special IPv6 addresses
    owner@exchangesite:~> cat /etc/resolv.conf
    ### BEGIN INFO
    # Modified_by: NetworkManager
    # Process: /usr/bin/NetworkManager
    # Process_id: 2202
    ### END INFO

Fix your /etc/hosts file and set-up a Split DNS, you should also take the time to read the product documentation on this page: Documentation for the open source Zimbra Collaboration Suite; email, contacts, and group calendaring

I was able to get the Zimbra Collaboration Suite up and running on Ubuntu.

I have BES 4.1 running on Windows Server 2003 with Zimbra Blackberry Connector, and ZCS running on Ubuntu.

I followed the instruction to setup up the Blackberry Manager and Blackberry Server accounts in my Mail profiles. I also created the BES Admin account in ZCS.

Now how do I proceed to add Users and provision them in BES. My understanding is that by adding users in the Address Book or in Outlook 2007 I should be able to access those users in BES or am I wrong here ?

If so, how can I go about adding users and provisioning them in BES.
