Default control panel Mail app hangs when adding BlackBerryManager user.

    Hi all,

    I'm using Windows Server 2003, SP2; Exchange ; ZCB GA ( 5.0.18_GA_2977_5.0.2711.18.msi )

When I try to create the BlackBerryManager profile I get the message "Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Office Outlook and set it as the default mail client", and the mail app hangs.

This issue seems to have come up for users of earlier versions of ZCB, and the problem looks to have been caused by multiple versions of mapi32 dlls being installed, and ZCB using an inappropriate one. From what I've read though, I think I have the right DLL in place in the system32 dir - the ~113Kb one from Windows, rather than from Exchange.

    Any suggestions appreciated!

In case this is useful: I enabled ZCO logging, and this message appears repeated:

    Zimbra Connector for Outlook 5.0.2711.18
    File Path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe
    File Version: 5.2.3790.3959

    Thanks!

We may need to check a couple of possible remedies here:

    - Based on description it is possible that Outlook installation is corrputed. Please try the list of steps from the following article in attempt to repair Outlook:

"Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request" error message when you send e-mail from third-party program in Outlook

    - It is possible that instalation sequence described in setup document was not followed. Please try to:

    +uninstal connector
    +uninstall Outlook 2007
    +uninstall MAPI/CDO

    and then
    +install MAPI/CDO
    +install Outlook 2007
    +install connector

In addition, i was wondering if you had Outlook 2003 ever installed on BES machine? If so, as per setup document we recommend to build clean zcb environemnt instead of upgrading from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007.

If suggestions above do not help, please open up support case support@zimbra.com and somebody will work with you directly on this.

    Hi EugeneR,

This is now solved, thank you, so I'll summarise:

I left two important details - Exchange 2003 is installed on the BES server, and MS's MAPI/CDO v1.2.1 can't be installed on a system where Exchange 2003 is installed. MS provides a CDO package without MAPI and I had installed this.

The other important thing was that Exchange's System Management Tools were installed, which is, as the ZCB guide clearly says, not supported with ZCB. My mistake.

Outlook 2003 has never been installed on this box.

The solution was to uninstall CDO, Outlook 2007, and ZCB - as you suggested - and also the Exchange System Management Tools.

I then reinstalled Outlook 2007, and then ZCB. I noticed the 'Mail' applet in control panel was missing. I ran Outlook once, and the Mail applet appeared.

From this point on - without installing CDO - everything worked fine, and users could be provisioned.

    Hurrah!

    Thanks,
    Kevin
