Just to clearify as I have exactly the same issue (crash during MAPI):

    1. Do I understand it right the BES server (in my case also 2008R2) does need to be a member of the AD (see: dcpromo)?
    2. Will that mean that ZCS also has to be configured to authenticate users off the AD?
    3. Am I thinking too complicated (I did not find anywhere in the AdminGuide mentioned the BES server needs to be joined/upgraded to a real AD domain/controller)?

    Hmmm....

Ok... looking at page 18 of ZimbraBESConnector-65-AdminGuide.pdf is more than clear...

Maybe enabling search features in the PDF would have been a good idea - it looks to me search and copy has been forbidden (only get nonsense when I try to copy links).

Okay, I got accross my original problem: the installation went ok without any issue on Windows 2008 R2:

But then I got in the Event viewer the following results:

    Code:

Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.1.7600.16559, time stamp: 0x4ba9b29c

Seems to be a Windows 2008 R2 update issue. The following did help for me:
BAS-AS.exe fails unexpectdly Admin services unavailable. - BlackBerryForums.com : Your Number One BlackBerry Community
