Default Relay Issues with windows mobile 5 device

Looked at qute a few posts on this problem of general relay denied and I cannot get this to work at all.

What do you have set in the MTA tab of the admin UI? I see "helo=<Inbox>" which depending on the reject settings may cause problems.

Did you guys ever get a resolution on this?

I'm able to send email via an IMAP account using Outlook 2003 by checking the "this server requires ... ssl" for the outgoing mail server, and checking the "outgoing server requires auth" (used same settings as incoming).

But with my WM5 smartphone, while I can receive emails fine, and can send emails *to any email address on my zimbra server's domain*, I cannot send emails outside.

I know this problem has been heavily documented on this forum, I've just spent the last 3 hours going thru various zimbraMailMode settings, checking/unchecking "TLS Only", stopping/starting zimbra, tomcat, etc., after changing various options.

If this issue is still outstanding, I can post excerpts of my log files here - on the other hand (please oh please oh please) if there is already a solution, I'd love to hear it.

(I do understand that with ZCS 3.2, I'll be able to simply sync via activeSync, which I do for calendar/contacts already, but it's not out yet...)

Same question to you... What do you have checked/unchecked in your MTA tab? I'm 99% sure it's the HELO restrictions. See the screen shot with the settings we use.

I changed my MTA settings to match (the only key difference was that I had the MTA hostname set to be the actual fqdn of the zimbra server - but was able to send via IMAP from Outlook 2003 with that).

This is my current MTA tab (and nothing is overridden on the server's settings):
(see attached file - i had to force the attachment to < 280 pixels tall, sorry).

With the hostname now set to "localhost" and the same settings, I'm getting the "Invalid Message Recipients" message back (and WM5 saves a copy of my attemped outgoing message in the drafts folder). Emails addressed to any internal (ie., on the server) email address continue to work fine.

Right now, I'm testing this via the USB-ActiveSync connection, so the phone is using my internet connection from thru my laptop (just to ensure that it's not my mobile provider blocking any ports). I can't believe how frustrated I am with myself for not having solved this. I suppose in a few weeks it won't matter, when 3.2 is released (although for customers with non-WM/PPC phones that have IMAP clients, it will).

what phone/imap client are you using? does it work if you set the server and phone to *not* use ssl/tls? is the server using the default self-signed cert?

The phone is the HTC StrTrk, sold in the U.S. as the QTek 8500, mine is branded as the Dopod S300 (but it's the same hardward).

Phone's operating system is Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0, and the actual client is the built-in message application (Pocket Outlook, I guess it's called).

The Zimbra Mobile feature (syncing Contacts and Calendar via ActiveSync over-the-air) works great. The IMAP mailbox I created on the phone syncs multiple folders properly, and quite fast (I use Edge). When I create a new message, and hit the "send" soft-menu button, it goes into the "outbox" folder.

Where it gets wierd is when I then do the "Send/Receive", Pocket Outlook gives me the standard error message "The message(s) could not be sent. Verify that you have network coverage, account information, etc., etc".

But - on subsequent send-receives, instead of that message, I get the message from "System Administrator" saying "Invalid message recipient", body = "Your message 'the subject i used' was not sent and has been moved to the Drafts folder. The following recipients are invalid: somemail@otherserver.com"

I have "cleartext" login enabled on the server. Whether I use ssl on the client or not, the same thing occurs (1st attempt gives me the error message, subsequent attempts put a "Invalid message recipient" in my mailbox).

*** I AM using the default self-signed cert, which I recreated following the wiki instructions after the original one expired. ***

I'm going to SSH into the server and examine the logs next to see where the failure is happening exactly, and post them here. Although if ZCS 4.0 goes GA before I figure it out, I'll just switch to using ActiveSync.

Check /var/log/zimbra.log for an error message when you send.

Did you figure this out. I am having similar issues. ActiveSync on Windows Mobile 5 is complaning that the SSL key is not valid. I'd like to install the CA that was generated by Zimbra but I haven't been able to figure it out.

    Hi,

I got this working using your directions above to extract the CA. This method works great if you happen to have iMail on OS X. I had to compress the cert file in a zip to get it onto the PDA un-munged.

Is there another method for exporting the CA in the correct format for Windows Mobile 5?

    Thanks,

    Jason
