Blank From Addresses Using Migration Wizard

Postby 15539sam » Thu Apr 20, 2006 1:59 pm

the reason the from address is blank is because in the PST the from address is stored as an exchange address (something like /o=MyOrg/ou=MySite/cn=Recipients/cn=JoeSmith). The exchange address book provider can be used to resolve these adresses to SMTP addresses. When you import a PST, there is no exchange address book provider available in the profile; its only available in exchange profiles.
To exemplify this, if you open the pst with outlook (in a non-exchange profile) and try to reply to one of those messages, the TO field in the reply message will be blank for the same reason.
If you use the PST import wizard to migrate messages, you will get empty from addresses when the FROM address type is an exchange address. This doesn't happen with the exchange migration wizard because it is able to resolve the addresses to SMTP addresses using the exchange address book provider.

I'm not using the PST method, i'm using the migration wizard that connects directly to the exchange server.

the only known reasons the FROM address is blank with the migration wizard is when the address book provider cannont find the recipient or when the recipient does not have an SMTP address.
1. Does the recipient still exist in AD (assuming you are using > Ex5.5)

2. Does the recipient have an SMTP address?

Is there any way to put the migration wizard into debug mode and get more detailed info in the logs?

Exchange 2000. Migration wizard is running on the exchange server under the domain administrator account.

unfortunately there is no greator verbosity available in the logs.
can you characterize when the from address is blank? Is it blank for all mails for all users, for all users on your server, only a few messages, etc?

If we go network version from the oss version, is it a reinstall or just a license code that can be put somewhere into zimbra.
